MArch Final Year Show. Exhibition Design, Signage.

EN  On occasion of MArch’s 2017 graduate show, a temporary pavilion designed by Matthew Leung (Assemble) was built to accommodate a mix of 3D and 2D work produced by the programme’s graduating students. Housed within Central Saint Martins’ main foyer, the tubular steel structure supports various facets onto which student work was affixed and displayed. The porous facade allowed for various points of entry and viewpoints. The Spatial identity and signage were designed in response to the utilitarian language of the structure. Simple off-the-shelf fixtures such as key clamp fittings and cable ties were explicitly used to support bespoke signage and caption holders throughout the space. Initiated in 2015, MArch is the architectural masters programme at Central Saint Martins. The course sees the architect’s role as politically active, and not purely that of a service provider. It encourages students to become live agents in the field of spatial practices: Practitioners are not only concerned with the formal aspects of architecture but also the social, political, economic and environmental forces which shape it.
